How To Choose an EMBA

How to Choose an EMBA

10 Questions to ask about any Executive MBA Program

  1. What kind of reputation does the program have? Is it highly respected? Will earning your degree there make you proud?
  2. Who is the program designed for? And what is it designed to do? Develop specialized expertise in a particular function or industry or general management skills? Will you end up with a set of notes or will you be a more effective leader?
  3. How does the program approach learning? How much is theory? Is it faculty centered (you listening) or participant based (learning from one another while the faculty facilitates)?
  4. How does the approach used mesh with the way you learn? Do you learn better by doing or by listening. Do you enjoy debate and face-to-face interaction or would you rather sit and watch a screen?
  5. How relevant is the course material to your current position? How quickly will you be able to apply what you learn, on the job?
  6. Who are the Faculty? What experience and approach will they bring. Do they work individually or as an integrated team?
  7. Will it challenge you? Is it the best program to meet your goals?
  8. How many people begin the program as compared to the number who graduate? What kind of support are you likely to get from the faculty, classmates and alumni?
  9. Can you visit a typical regular class module to see how the program works? Are you able to speak with faculty, class members and alumni?
  10. Do you get a good feeling from the interaction you've had with the people at that school?

Media Rankings

"My position on rankings is that they are just one of many factors that are inputs to assessing business schools. If you are considering applying to a school, you should determine the best program that meets your learning and living style, your reasons for pursuing an MBA degree, and your career aspirations. Only through class visits, speaking to alumni and current participants and services offered can you make the right choice for you."
